During my years working in industry I went on quite a number of 1 day training courses. The scope of many of them were very broad . I now wonder if it was or is realistic to assume you can learn from these types of courses and to put to practical use what you learn when you return to work.
As most of the courses were Fas funded it wasn’t such a huge drain on the company to send staff away on these courses and it was almost a reward for a job well done. In today’s climate I would imagine things have changed somewhat.
Companies should question the benefit to the business of sending an employee on a training course (no matter what duration).
They should have a good idea prior to the course how they will measure the benefit (in consultation with the trainee).
On their return, an implementation plan should be agreed and carried out.
